Pronunciation VS Grammar
Perfection seems to be the one and only target to pursue in English learning. It results students progress a bit slower. How come?
Basically people are having two concepts in mind, chasing delights and avoiding misery. Based on these two, students will never develop their knowledge in rapid speed due to its fear of making mistakes. Therefore, we can optimize the "chasing delight" concept. Students tend to feel free if they are allowed to make mistakes and it eventually becomes pleasure even though in the future they will get bored in making mistakes. What I am trying to say here is that it could be the steps of learning. Let the students make mistakes - but still we correct the mistakes -, release their fear so that they can see what is wrong and how it should be. What is happening these days? Students get bored in trying to be right, since they find that it is hard to be right. Even though there is some parts of English are forbidden to be wrong, somehow.

Teach students how to have understandable English instead of correct English due to the fact that English skills which are Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing are divided into formal and informal. Speaking, which is "packaged" with listening, is having its own circumstances. It would be funny if students -people- are speaking in correct way. On the other hand, it becomes such a pleasure to have new term of spoken English such as Waz up? rather than How are you? The point is that by having understandable English students have already made good English. To have understandable English, students must be able to, at least, pronounce English words correctly. It is so funny if they have good grammar but bad pronunciation. It might be exactly like this video. Enjoy it.

ReplyDelete1. Apakah kamu sudah makan pagi hari ini?
2. Dah sarapan blon?
